2024 was a transformative year for Gearbulk,
marked by strategic advancements in fleet
renewal, operational performance, and digital
e昀昀orts. As we continue our commitment to excellence and sustainability, we have taken signi昀椀cant
steps to enhance e昀케ciency, safety, and connectivity across our global operations. From the introduction of next-generation vessels to advancing
digital solutions, this year has been de昀椀ned by
progress.
Our operational review highlights the key achievements and milestones that have shaped the past
year, reinforcing our vision for a future that is both
resilient and forward-thinking.
Newbuildings: Future-proo昀椀ng the 昀氀eet
A major milestone in Gearbulk’s 昀氀eet renewal program was achieved in 2024 with the
signing of contracts for six state-of-the-art, 82,300 DWT open hatch vessels. Named
‘Pulpmaxes,’ these vessels are designed to enhance cargo handling capabilities
and provide greater service 昀氀exibility. They will be the largest and most e昀케cient in
Gearbulk’s history, underscoring our commitment to operational excellence and
future-proo昀椀ng our 昀氀eet.
Beyond their impressive scale, the Pulpmax vessels embody sustainability and innovation. They are conversion-ready for ammonia and methanol propulsion, aligning
with Gearbulk’s long-term environmental strategy to reduce carbon emissions and
improve energy e昀케ciency. Key speci昀椀cations include a length overall (LOA) of 225
meters, a beam of 36 meters, a draft of 12.5 meters, and a deadweight tonnage of
82,300. Additionally, they feature eight box-shaped cargo holds, tween decks, and
four fully electric cargo cranes with enhanced lifting capacity, allowing for greater
versatility in cargo transportation.
These vessels will be constructed at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in Guangzhou, China, with the 昀椀rst units set to begin construction in Q4 2025 and deliveries
scheduled for 2027. Their introduction will mark a new era for Gearbulk, ensuring
we continue to provide industry-leading solutions for our customers worldwide.
